Trimming the MEU and slimming the Gator; when it comes to a ship's load, what you see is not necessarily what you get

Article Abstract:

The heavier equipment requirements of Marine expeditionary units have resulted in amphibious ships, or 'Gators,' that are overloaded. This overloading, which goes beyond the ships' design limitations, is a potentially dangerous situation.

The importrance of military logistics is recounted in the description of the US Marines' advance from Inchon to Seoul, during the Korean War. Logistics have been vital throughout military history, and remain equally importrant today.
