UNOLS fleet

Article Abstract:

Twenty-eight civilian oceanographic research ships are utilized for oceanographic research as part of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) fleet. While ownership of the vessels varies from the Navy to the National Science Foundation (NSF) to the universities, all of the vessels are operated by universities or research institutions.

The NAVSEA/NWC connection: innovation consultants for the fleet of the future

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the annual Global War Game of the Naval War College are presented. The game simulates real-world political, military, logistic, economic and industrial dynamics 10 to 15 years from now. Support is provided by Naval Sea Systems Command personnel .

The names, operators, and homeports of the US's six large/global ships, nine small local/near-shore ships, and thirteen intermediate/regional oceanographc research ships are listed.
