Despite protest, USAF awards AN/ALE-47 contract

Article Abstract:

Tracor Aerospace Inc. of Austin, TX, has received a new order from the US Air Force Aeronautical Systems Center. This came after Symetrics Industries Inc. of Melbourne, FL, complained about the $19.8-million deal. This concerned manufacturing lots V-VII which are equivalent to 952 shipsets. Tracor will be required to provide AN/ALE-47 chaff and flare dispensing systems. The US Air Force was not influenced by Congressional pressure to award the contract to Tracor. The agency chose Tracor for its capabilities.

Former US Navy crew members are working for the preservation of an EA-3B aircraft, called the Electronic Whale. This aircraft served from 1956-1992 as an intelligence collection aircraft for the US Navy.
