US hires NetFires to develop NLOS-LS at sea

Article Abstract:

NetFires LLC, a company established by Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, in 2006 has received a USD54 million contract from the US Navy (USN) for the System, Design and Development of the Non Line-of-Sight Launch System (NLOS-LS) for the Littoral Combat Ship. The contract, a joint award between the US Army, USN and NetFires, would develop a common launcher that could fire the Precision Attack Missile (PAM) and later accept future missile variants to meet the existing and future requirements for both services.

U.S. Navy fails expanded BMD trial

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Navy (USN) suffered its second failed interception of a total of 10 Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) engagements, on December 7, 2006 when a Raytheon Standard Missile (SM-3) interceptor failed to clear its launcher and operators had to call off a second interceptor launch. It is revealed that one of these ships was the Royal Netherlands Navy's (RNLN) De Zeven Provincien-class frigate HMS Tromp, marking the service's opening involvement in BMD.
