USCG retreads Deepwater to combat terrorist threat

Article Abstract:

The US Coast Guard (USCG) plays an important role in the maritime safety and the Integrated Deepwater Systems (IDS or Deepwater Programme) was taken up for the modernization and recapitalization of its fleet including fast-deteriorating cutters, helicopters, aircrafts and fast patrol boats under the name of Integrated Coast Guard Systems (ICGS). The Deepwater was provided with a fleet of cutters and aircrafts that can face the new 21st century threats.

Leading edge - USCG juggles assets for homeland security

Article Abstract:

The US Coast Guard's Sector New York is facing the challenges of building an accurate intelligence picture, countering the threat and transitioning from legacy system since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The functions of the USCG's New York Field Intelligence Support Teams (FISTs), made up of coast guard personnel and the New York City Police Department (NYPD), concerning homeland security are discussed.

Hybrid crew poses questions for US Navy

Article Abstract:

The US Navy faces controversy over its manning experiment of staffing a USS Mount Whitney warship with hybrid crew made up of civilians and active-service personnel. The vessel, operationally owned by the Military Sealift Command, is also a commissioned US warship actively servicing as a NATO and US command ship.
