Article Abstract:

The Marine Corps' investment in distance learning offers the Marine leaders, especially junior leaders, the tools and opportunities to supervise the training of their Marines without requiring excessive permission and resources from higher headquarters. The capabilities of MarineNet, www.MarineNet.usmc.mil the official Marine Corps electronic distance learning web site, and the way it can directly support in seven common situations are described.

Extending the reach of educational opportunities

Article Abstract:

The Marine Corps Training and Education Command (TECom) aims to prepare force for current and future operational environments, for which it is chartering training and education centers of excellence (TECOE) to attain greater efficiency and effectiveness from training and education processes. The current TECom efforts of providing increased educational opportunities through deployable learning (DL) are highlighted.

A tactical decision game that describes a situation that requires orders being given to element leaders in two minutes is presented. The situation described is an attack on a base camp by drug traffickers and the camp is located between two rivers.
