DVD impresses in the areas of picture and sound quality, but the first generation hardware for DVD has some ergonomic flaws. A number of DVD players currently available default to subtitle mode. Also, switching from pan-and-scan to widescreen mode requires physically removing and replacing a disc.

Hum job
Article Abstract:
A recipe for how to rid a turntable of low humming sounds is given. The equipment used are the Grado phono cartridge and the Rega Research turntable. A special shielding material called Mu-metal which remains effective below the 60-Hz AC power-line frequency where the hum originates is featured.

Some consumer electronics writers are backing away from their earlier predictions that DVD would be a resounding success and making the mistake of forecasting that it will flop. DVD will succeed because it is a major advance in technology.
