RDS car stereo systems are capable of displaying a wide variety of information, including radio station formats, the name of the song currently being played, and even traffic data. A firm called CouponRadio is developing a system to download coupons for items advertised on RDS radio.

Digital Compact Cassette and MiniDisc systems offer near-CD-quality sound in recordable format, compact and durable enough for road use. MD players offer the best protection from grime and dust. DCC car systems, not yet available, will be able to play analog cassettes.

Radio on display - and vice versa
Article Abstract:
The RBDS standard for car audio systems, which is patterned after Europe's RDS system, has now been settled upon by audio equipment manufacturers. Radios equipped with RBDS circuitry will be able to identify the recording being played for potential purchase.
