Kate Lee and the foundation of the Folk-Song Society

Article Abstract:

Former opera singer Kate Lee was the true founding force behind the formation of the Folk-Song Society. She slowly abandoned her opera career as she became more interested in collecting folk music. In 1898 she created the society along with fellow folk music scholars, including A.P. Graves who claimed the society was his idea.

The Lucy Broadwood collection: an interim report
