The history of audio technology can be compared with the ceaseless regular undulation of the sine wave. The fashionable latest technologies fall out of favor, but often reappear, such as the new audiophile analog recordings.

Better history through binaural

Article Abstract:

Experiments in binaural recording technology were far more cumbersome in the 1950s than today. These recordings are uninteresting when played through loudspeakers, but through headphones the binaural sound comes alive.

Binaural on the fly

Article Abstract:

Binaural recording is an excellent way to capture the natural ambiance of a setting, such as birds in nature or a dinner party. Hyperbinaural recording, which uses larger separation, is also effective.
