Nerve agents degraded by enzymatic foams

Article Abstract:

Nerve agents could previously only be decontaminated with bleach treatment or ex situ incineration, with severe environmental consequences. Organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH), an enzyme hydrolysing nerve agents, was incorporated into aqueous fire-fighting foams. The enzyme containing foams are predictable in detoxifying organophosphorus toxins on surfaces, and are an environmentally friendly alternative.
