100,000 scooters recalled; handles blamed in crashes

Article Abstract:

Around 100,000 scooters will be recalled as a result of accidents caused by defective handles. The recalls come as the consumer Product Safety Commission reports about 1,800% increase in injuries related to scooters from May to Sep 2000. The most common injury, which accounts for 29% of incidents, was a fracture, usually of the arm or hand. The agency suggests that scooter users wear helmets, kneepads and elbow pads.
