8 Designs Confront Many Agendas at Ground Zero

Article Abstract:

The Lower Manhattan Development. Corp. has announced eight finalists for design of a memorial to those who died at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. There was substantial criticism of the architectural proposals from a variety of groups representing victims of the WTC attack. Most reactions indicated that the designs did not provide a unique reflection of the tra gedy or the substance of the lives of those who perished when the two towers collapsed. Relatives of uniformed rescuers who died Sept. 11 seek special recognition for their sacrifice.
