A bitter civil service strike ends in a draw

Leaders of the Ontario Management Board and the province's public employees union (OPSEU) reached a tentative labor accord in Apr 1996. OPSEU members will soon vote to ratify or reject the deal. Pursuant to the deal, laid off employees will have the right to jobs held by employees with less seniority.

A mother's agony: AIDS has not stopped Janet Conners' fight

Article Abstract:

Conners, 41, is very sick with AIDS, but she continues her battles with the Nova Scotia government over the tainted blood scandal. She and her late husband Randy, a hemophiliac, were instrumental in getting financial reimbursement for people infected through tainted blood products.

Rediscovering Newfoundland

Article Abstract:

Newfoundland is staging around 75 different events celebrating the 500th anniversary of John Cabot's landing in Canada in 1497. Some of the activities planned include a five-day symposium on Cabot, a gathering of choirs and exhibit featuring a wooden replica of Cabot's ship.
