A new focus revives Storage Technology

Article Abstract:

Storage Technology has made an impressive comeback since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1983. The computer storage equipment manufacturer was the leading gainer on the NYSE during the first half of 1990. Last week a 160 percent increase in 2nd qtr earnings was announced. The $11.4 million earned on sales of $276.4 million outstripped the projections of most analysts, who also could not explain why the announcement was followed by a 25 percent decline in the company's stock. The company's leading product is a tape library which stores data tapes and can automatically retrieve and load them with a robotic arm. The company is now developing a fast, fault-tolerant disk drive system. The company is committed to open systems.
