A title worth fighting for: LPGA officials fear that tobacco legislation could kill the Classic

Article Abstract:

The du Maurier Classic is scheduled to be held at Glen Abby Golf Club near Toronto. But worry over Canada's new law which restricts tobacco industry sponsorships, is overshadowing pre-tourney news. The loss of the tourney will be a major blow to Canadian women's golf, but 1998 may be its last year.

The Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors face stiff challenges as they begin the 1996-97 season. Basketaball has less spectator support than hockey or baseball. However, basketball has a future in Canada because the came is popular among children.

A quiet success: Richard Zokol pursues his national title

Canadian golfer Zokol slowly built a career in his 11 years as a professional golfer. Despite his relative anonymity, Zokol is sponsored by four companies at the 1992 Canadian Open. He won his first tournament in Apr 1992.
