AT&T targets Latin America

Article Abstract:

AT and T Corp will establish AT and T Latin America to offer high-speed network access in the region. To form the company, the operations of NetStream, a Brazilian phone firm that AT and T is acquiring for $300 million, will be merged with FirstCom, which has phone operations across Latin America. AT and T and its Brazilian partner, Promon Tecnologia, will provide $70 million. AT and T Latin America will be 60% ownedby AT and T, 6% by Promon Tecnologia, and 34% by FirstCom shareholders.

On-the-fly trading takes off with technology

Article Abstract:

Wireless trading, with participants estimated at less than 1,000 individuals for the whole country, is expected to grow as technology continues to improve. The service, offered by such securities companies as InvesTrade, Muriel Siebert and Fidelity, allows investors to trade and monitor their investment from anywhere at anytime. This is accomplished through a two-way paging service that gives investors updated information ;that includes stock prices and account balances.

Ralston Purina trading netted $460,000

Article Abstract:

An insider-trading lawsuit against people who used illegal information to buy and sell stock options of Ralston Purina may be expanded by securities regulators. The defendants made at least $460,000 in illegal profits in the weeks before the company was purchased by Nestle. An injunction has been signed by a US District Court judge to maintain an asset freeze on the accounts involved in the alleged illegal trading.
