Abitibi, Quebecor proxy fight looms

Abitibi-Consolidated Inc., the worlds biggest newsprint maker, has refused Quebecor Inc.'s demand for the ouster its chief executive officer John Weaver. Former prime-minister Brian Mulroney who is on Quebecor Inc.'s board has been asked to broker a compromise to prevent a proxy fight.

Key Quebecor board member resigns

Article Abstract:

Quebecor Inc board member Michel Desbiens has resigned from the board of Abitibi-Consolidated due to a compromise agreement arrived at between Quebecor and Abitibi. Abitibi acquired Donohue Inc where Desbiens was CEO-president.
