AdCritic.com's creators say it is a victim of its own success

Article Abstract:

AdCritic.com's loyal fans are sad to hear of the demise of the imaginative Web site that offered over 3,000 old and new TV ads as well as ad agency 'spec ads' and other services. AdCritic just couldn't afford the cost for bandwidth used to stream the commercials to the millions of customers attracted to the site. The company chief executive, Peter Beckman and president James Riley are hopeful someone will come up with an acquisition proposal for the most popular broadband site on the net. When the company started, for $7,000, ad agencies loved the site in spite of its irreverence toward the industry. But despite the high flow of traffic, about 500,000 visits a month, the money never followed.

Hard times in the hatchery; after dot-com flameout, 'incubator' is a despised word

Article Abstract:

The state of Idealab Capital Partners exemplifies what has befallen the 'business incubator' sector of the high tech industry. CEO Bill Gross pulled back from an initial public offering when two of the dot-coms Idealab sponsored, Eve.com and Scout Electromedia, failed and drove down the incubator's stock price. Even the most successful companies sponsored Idealab, such as eToys and GoTo.com, have seen precipitous stock price drops.
