Air Canada appealed the decision by Canada's National Transportation Agency that allows the US firm AMR Corp to buy a large portion of PWA Corp subsidiary Canadian Airlines International Ltd. Air Canada opposes the deal because it will cause Canadians to lose their jobs.

Canada is facing a severe shortage in computer programmers. The shortage could become so severe as to hurt Canada's chances to compete in the global economy. Since 1983, enrollment in university software-related courses has fallen by 30%.
