Algoma survival in workers' hands

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.-based Algoma Steel Inc. is asking its workers to take wage and benefits cuts after creditors approved its restructuring plan. Algoma Steel's 3,900 workers, who are represented by the United Steelworkers of America, will also have to approve the elimination of many jobs.

Algoma gets creditor protection

Algoma Steel Inc. received creditor protection as the company has been hurt by the slowdown in the steel industry. Algoma's filing for creditor protection was the second time the company had done so in 10 years.
