Alien attack

Article Abstract:

Union officials have alleged that many foreign-looking welders at a Western Australian resource project were employed. They fear such workers were taking jobs from skilled Australians and young workers who need training. Immigration authorities investigated the status of the workers. Jock Ferguson, assistant state secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Union, claims the Korean-born workers were members of his union.

The quiet revolution

Article Abstract:

The Weld Club and the Western Australian Club, both in Perth, Australia, represent opposite positions taken by private clubs. The Weld Club's members are men and are prominent in business and government, while the Western Australian Club (WAC) offered memberships to women in 1996. Anyone can apply for a WAC membership, but the club has not changed its rule about wearing ties and jackets in the main room.
