With a new computer program don't try to learn the entire program at once. Take your time and master the basics first

Learning a computer program all at once is difficult, but it is not necessary. A systematic approach can simplify learning: first, look at the table of contents to see what the program does, deciding at the same time what you need to know; then, start slowly learning basic functions - how to install the program, how to save and load files, how to enter data and read them, how to print things and how to call up 'help' files; pay special attention to any options that might fit the program to your needs; decide what parts of the program you need and break needed functions into bite-sized chunks, learning each individually; and after the basics are learned, skim the manual again looking for sections missed before. At this point, other books might be useful: no two authors explain things the same way. Alphabetized pocket reference guides and keyboard templates, too, can help.

A French giant stalks U.S. telephone market

Article Abstract:

Alcatel Alsthom, a French company, is now one of the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturers, ahead of America's AT and T. Alcatel Alsthom, which has grown rapidly through a strategy of making acquisitions and alliances in Europe, is now moving into US markets, where 40 percent of the world's telephone equipment is sold. At the same time, AT&T is increasing its presence in Europe. AT&T and Alcatel now directly compete in Spain and Italy. Alcatel's chairman, Pierre Suard, who has always viewed Alcatel as an international company, is not concerned about competition with AT and T. He says Alcatel's company's international experience will be an advantage on either side of the Atlantic.
