Amtrak on track for passenger record

Article Abstract:

National Railroad Passenger Corp or Amtrak is poised to break its record for passengers carried in FY 2000 ending Sep 30. However, the railway will not turn a profit for at least two more years. Amtrak's ridership from Oct 1998 to Aug 1999 reached 20.6 million, up 3.5% from the 19.9 million in same period a year ago. Its revenue for the same 10-month period was also up by 9.2%. It expects to break its FY 1990 record of 22.2 million riders.

Amtrak offers rider rewards

Article Abstract:

Amtrak is lanching a frequent-rider program that will award passengers points redeemable for train and airline tickets, car rentals or hotel nights. The Guest Rewards program will be announced on the same day that it begins selling tickets for its high-speed Acela Express trains which will begin service on Dec 11, 2000, in the Northeast corridor. Awards include free airline tickets on United, Continental and Midwest Express.

Got a gripe? Amtrak patrons get free ride

Article Abstract:

National Railroad Passenger Corp or Amtrak is confident on delivering quality service so much so that it promises to give away a free ride to commuters who have complaints about its employees and service. The promise was announced by Amtrak Pres and CEO George Warrington on Jul 6, 2000 and took effect the day after. Amtrak is informing commuters about the promise through messages in each seatback on Amtrak trains.
