An Afghan mystery

Article Abstract:

A former green beret has been arrested in Afghanistan for running his own private army, which would kidnap and torture people in attempt to ferret information on the elusive Osama bin Laden. Spurred by the 25 million dollar bounty, the former army man posing as a rug dealer took up residence in Afghanistan and along with a group of Americans started their own interrogating agency the Task Force Sabre 7 and his defenders call him a true patriot.

A win in the fog of war: after weeks of false starts, the Northern Alliance advances on the Taliban in the north, taking Mazur-e Sharif. As our allies fight to press on, the U.S. command is asking for more resources including the Marines

Article Abstract:

With support from American bombers, Northern Alliance troops overran Mazar-e Sharif, a key town in Northern Afganistan. However, it is too early to tell if the victory is a turning point in the effort to unseat the Taliban. Strategies of U.S. commanders and their Northern Alliance counterparts, as well as the effect of the victory at Mazar-e Sharif are discussed.
