An inventor of the microchip, Robert N. Noyce, dies at 62

Article Abstract:

Robert N. Noyce, who received a patent in 1959 for integrating circuits on a single silicon microchip, died on Jun 3, 1990 of a heart attack at the age of 62. Noyce's integrated circuitry technology, which was developed with Jack Kilby, became the basis for modern computers and allowed the miniaturization of electronic devices. Noyce had over 12 patents and was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1979 and the National Medal of Technology in 1987; he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1983. Noyce was president and CEO of Sematech Inc, a semiconductor research consortium organized by 14 companies, at the time of his death. Noyce is survived by his wife, Ann Bowers, his mother, three brothers, four children and 12 grandchildren.

Sears Stock Jumps as Realty Trust Discloses Stake

Article Abstract:

With the announcement that Vornado Realty Trust had acquired a 4.3 percent stake in Sears, Roebuck and Co., the department stores shares rose 23 percent. Sears purchased Lands' End in 2002, and opened Sears Grand in an effort to maintain market share.
