Analysts forecast robust car sales for Canada, U.S

Article Abstract:

Car sales in the US and Canada are expected to maintain its current level of sales in 1999. During the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association annual outlook conference, Mustafa Mohatarem, chief economist for General Motors Corp., projected that 15.5 million cars, trucks and minivans will be sold in the US in 1998, and more than 15 million in 1999. Car sales in Canada are projected to exceed 1.4 million in 1998 and reach the same level in 1999. The economic condition in the US and Canada are expected to remain the same as compared to Asia, Russia and Brazil which are now suffering an economic downturn.

GM pegs growth beyond Canada

Article Abstract:

The rise in the value of the Canadian dollar against its US counterpart increases the need for continuing improvements in the productivity and quality in January 2005. GM is planning to tap an Ontario government fund that set aside $500-million to attract new and replacement automotive investments to the province.
