Another way to work at a desk

Way You Work/Personal Office 2.0 from Proteo (Princeton, NJ) and Markham (Ontario, CN) is a desktop organizer that lets users set up customized filing systems by organizing data files into objects that, in turn, make up a list. Related objects can be grouped into 'folders' while related 'folders' can be classified into 'drawers.' The lists that are created may include objects found on the desktop or in the wastebasket, incoming mail and other objects that fulfill a certain search criteria. Keyboard or mouse commands can easily open, save or discard files. 'Robots' or macros are also provided to automate routine tasks, such as checking the amount of hard disk space available. A 232-page installation and tutorial manual, as well as a 338-page reference manual are included in the package. Way You Work/Personal Office 2.0 requires an 80286 or 80386-based computer with at least 640Kbytes and 5Mbytes of hard disk space. The program lists for $399.

Automobile mechanics with no sweat or tears

Informative Graphics's $79.95 Auto Insight is a useful program for car lovers who enjoy tinkering with their cars. The product discusses an automobile's main mechanisms in text and graphics, and intersperses them with historical trivia and maintenance hints. Among the items discussed are air conditioning, cooling, electrical, engine, heating, fuel, drive train and braking and suspension systems. Auto Insight needs an Intel 80286 microprocessor, 512Kbytes of memory, a floppy drive, a 3.5Mbyte hard drive and DOS 3.0 or later. Digital Eclipse's $49.99 Zounds plays background sounds for the Apple Macintosh. Users can choose from 10 background sounds, including Swamp, On the Farm, Archipelago, Aviary, By the Bay, Harps and It's Raining. Sounds are also customizable by turning off part of the background sounds. Zounds requires a Macintosh with System 6.0.5 or later, at least 1Mbyte of memory and at least a 7Mbyte hard disk.
