High tide high hopes

Article Abstract:

Remote Australian towns could derive electricity from stations powered by ocean tides. Derby, near Perth, is planning to build the first station in the world driven by tidal waters to produce a continuous flow of electricity. Construction is planned to begin mid-1998, and the station should be on line by 2000. Tidal power is renewable, non-polluting, and often available when natural gas is not.
