Army and Navy granting more felony waivers

Article Abstract:

The Army and Navy are granting an increasing number of felony and misdemeanor waivers in a trend which some experts believe is another, disturbing indicator of the declining quality of the Armed Services. Military records indicate that the Army, thus far in 2000, has accepted 357 recruits who had been arrested for felonies versus 166 in 1998, while the Navy has accepted 131 sailors who had been charged with felony offenses versus 47 in 1998. Since the military's recruiting period ends on Sep 30, 2000, these numbers are expected to increase.

Recent errors tarnish Lockheed's image

Article Abstract:

The reputation of Lockheed Martin Corp has suffered due to the recent and very costly failures of its space probes. Lockheed was the lead contractor for the NASA's $123 million Mars Polar Lab which was lost, and the $165 million Mars Climate Orbiter which was destroyed. The recent failures of Lockheed and its substractors were attributed in part to the 'faster, cheaper and better' policy of NASA.
