Arthur Andersen fined $7M by SEC

Article Abstract:

Arthur Andersen and Co on Jun 19, 2001 was fined $7 million by the SEC for signing off on financial statements for Waste Management Inc that inflated the trash hauler's income by over $1 billion between 1992 and 1996. According to the SEC, Arthur Andersen 'knowingly or recklessly issued materially false and misleading audit reports on Waste Management' over four years. Also, the SEC sanctioned four partners at Arthur Andersen. The accounting firm agreed to a settlement but did not admit or deny any wrongdoing.

Article Abstract:

Package design has become an increasingly important means of product differentiation. Its aim is to propel a product across the threshold from shelf to shopping cart. Shape, color and texture offer subtle but tangible cues that do not make it across the airwaves in a commercial. Done well, they make an emotional link to a consumer at the point of purchase. That is why packaging design represents a business with more than $100 billion in annual billings and sales.
