F.B.I. says 3 stole secrets from Lucent

Article Abstract:

Lucent Technology employees, Hai Lin and Kai Xu, along with Village Networks executive, Yong-Qing Cheng were arrested by the FBI for conspiring to give Lucent trade secrets to Datang Telecom Technology Company, Beijing. Lucent's PathStar source code was being passed on via the men's venture, ComTriad Technologies. The 3 men were charged with wire fraud in Newark, NJ. Chinese-American leaders, already nervous about U.S. racism toward Asians wonder why this case is attracting so much attention; the FBI probes thousands of business espionage cases every year.

Alcatel said to be in talks to buy Lucent

Article Abstract:

There is a 50-50 chance that France's Alcatel will acquire Lucent Technologies for about $40 billion in an almost all-stock deal. Doing so would give Alcatel inroads to the US market for its telecom equipment, a market shared with competitors Nortel Networks and Cisco Systems. If Alcatel ends up not buying all of Lucent, it will try to buy its fiber optic cable business.
