At issue: Do the media devote too much attention to celebrities?

Article Abstract:

The debate regarding too much attention being paid by the media for celebrities is presented. James Houran, who is the coauthor of 'Celebrity Worship ScaleE, feels that the media is devoting too much attention towards the celebrities whereas Dennis McCafferty, the senior writer of USA Weekend Magazine is not convinced that hard news is neglected for the sake of celebrity coverage.

Newspapers and radio broadcasts made by journalists like Walter Winchell gave the public a view of the gossips and scandals involving the celebrities. The craving for more information regarding celebrities was further fulfilled by the publications such as People magazine and the introduction of the television, which gave a much closer look of the celebrity culture.

Article Abstract:

The fascination shown by the United States (U.S.) citizens and media towards celebrities and their culture is analyzed. This fascination has resulted in more media coverage for celebrities, which has in turn caused a decrease in news coverage and wrongly influenced the younger generations.
