AutoDesk buying Discreet Logic

Article Abstract:

AutoDesk Inc., a San Rafael, CA-based developer of software for engineers and designers, is acquiring Discreet Logic Inc. of Montreal, Quebec, for $520 million in stock. The deal calls for AutoDesk to issue .525 shares of common stock for every outstanding share of Discreet Logic. AutoDesk will merge Discreet Logic into its Kinetix unit, which writes software for creating three-dimensional images. Discreet Logic, a developer of special effects software for movies and television, lost C$612,000 on revenue of C$151.6 million for the year ended June 30, 1998.

SLMsoft revenue soars 400 per cent

Article Abstract:

SLMsoft.com Inc, a Toronto, Canada-based provider of payment processing software, reported an increase of over 400% in revenue for the 2nd qtr ended Jun 30, 1999, at C$23.9 million from C$5.5 million in the same period in 1998. Despite posting a record 2nd-qtr revenue, higher marketing and operating expenses left the company with small profit. Profit for the latest qtr was C$327,330, or one cent per share, a bit higher from C$199,671, or two cents per share, last year.
