BCE units will need independence, analysts say

Montreal, Que.-based BCE Inc. has spun off most of telecommunications equipment maker Brampton, Ont.-based Nortel Networks Corp. BCE, which is led by president and chief executive officer Jean Monty, is expected to give its remaining units a more independent role to create improved performance.

Montreal, Que.-based BCE Inc., which is led by president and chief executive officer Jean Monty, will spin off its stake in Brampton, Ont.-based Nortel Networks Corp. BCE will turn over its $73 billion stake in Nortel, which is a telecommunications equipment maker, to its shareholders.
