Work-related depression and stress are becoming classic symptoms of hard-working high-flyers whose well-being needs to be guaranteed by their employers. Australian companies are reassessing their attitudes after research by Disability Services Australia, an organization that works with employers to prevent mental health problems among workers, shows one in five Australian employees will develop a mental illness each year.

The coming mass retirement of workers aged 50 and above is set to spark a shortage of professional, managerial and leadership experience at the top of organizations in Australia. Employers who want to employ only young people need to find a way to retrain their retiring professionals and also change their culture to attract them.
