Big brother was watching

Article Abstract:

Kerry Packer, the boss of Channel Nine knew what he wanted to do for the betterment of his channel. He was a constant viewer who called the network to give his opinion on the shows which was genuinely appreciated by the staff and far from stiffing creativity, his constant needling raised the adrenaline levels in every department spurring the staff to try harder knowing that he cared enough to watch.

Requiem for a heavy weight

Brief description on Richard Carleton who was a highly respected ABC political commentator before he joined Channel Nine in 1987 is presented. He was at his best in setting the scene in remote and confusing situations so that even a casual viewer would suddenly feel compelled to watch.

Ahead of their time

A program, 60 minutes on the small screen, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary and has achieved a standard of TV journalism equal to any in the world, is discussed. The success for the program is that it offers the most attractive elements of all the different television genres.
