Coles Myer CEO John Fletcher will within the next few weeks make a decision on whether to begin offering discounts on gasoline in order to preserve the market share of the company's Coles supermarket division. Competitor Woolworths launched a discount program last year and has gained market share at Coles Myer's expense.

Brian McNamee, the managing director of CSL Ltd, a blood-products company, is seeking two billion dollars to complete the merger-takeover of Aventis Behring of the Aventis Group. The merger of CSL and Aventis Behring would result in savings in distribution system and also in blood collection system and processing plants.
