This is not your father's Boeing 737
Article Abstract:
Boeing Co's 'New Generation' 737-700s and 737-800s jets manufactured from 1996 on can fly at least 1,200 miles farther than the old generation of 737s. The jets are being used by airlines companies for longer non-stop flights to save the passengers the hassle of having to change planes. For instance, Aloha Airlines is using the new 737-700 for its first flights between the Hawaiian Islands and the mainland.

Boeing 737 model delayed; 747 cutbacks may be needed
Article Abstract:
Boeing has announced it would not meet deliveries of 737 models scheduled in 1998 and is considering a reduction in its 747 model production rates in 1999. The company attributed the production reduction to the Asian economic crisis, though no Asian airlines have yet to cancel their orders. However, Boeing maintained it would meet its 1998 target of 550 deliveries despite facing parts shortages, training difficulties and changes called for by European authorities.

1,500 Boeing jets face inspection
Article Abstract:
Boeing's 1,500 jetliners face safety inspections to be ordered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following the discovery of rudder-control problems on two of the company's older 737 models. The directive will immediately cover 1,477 of the more than 5,500 Boeing jets that are in service. Although the FAA and Boeing downplayed the problems with the pedals, the aircraft manufacturer urged airlines to voluntarily inspect most rudder pedals and FAA will give airlines 90 days to make the checks.
