Ian Macfarlane, the titular head of the Reserve Bank in Australia has occupied a senior policy role at the bank since it has evolved from being a branch office of the Treasury into a genuinely independent central bank. He discusses his observations of the 1990-91 recession in Australia, which was the worst since the 1930s and the way economy recovered from the recession.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has belatedly realized that the longer the credit bubble continues, the greater will be the potential damage to the Australia's economy. The RBA has reappointed Ian Macfarlane as the RBA governor and he will stick around till the credit boom deflates.
