Those who invest before Jun 30, 1999, could find much or all of the investment is tax deductible. However, the quality of the investment and its eligibility should be the primary factors considered in such a venture. Research and sound advice from established firms are the best means to locate such investments, yet many will invest simply for a short-term gain that becomes a long-term loss.

Important tax changes have occurred recently that will likely impact the way Australians invest. Of the four major developments outlined here, only one was an minor contention in the recent elections -- the tax-free status of family trusts. The four tax changes and the impact they will have on investors are discussed.
