Article Abstract:

Anne Michaels states that she began to write fiction when she realized that there were some stories that she could not tell through poetry. Her first novel,' Fugitive People,' tells the story of a Jewish boy rescued by an archaeologist excavating the bog where the boy was hiding. She spent 10 years writing the book followed by two years to promote it internationally.

Giving weighty subjects their due

Article Abstract:

Norman Davies and Graham Robb were two of the most noted authors at Writer's Week at the 1998 Adelaide Festival. Davies has published histories of Europe and Poland that discuss multiple influences rather than a single dominant country. Robb has written major biographies of Victor Hugo and Honore de Balzac. His next book will be a biography of poet Arthur Rimbaud.

Mystery writer Donna Leon has made Venice, Italy, her home and sets her stories there. Her book "Fatal Remedies" was released in 1999. Her book "A Nobel Radiance" was included on German bestseller lists in 1998. "Death at La Fenice" was awarded the Suntory Prize. Leon was born in New York, New York, and has taught English in Iran and Saudia Arabia.
