CIBC pares accounts, reduces fees

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce has launched a strategy to build retail customer loyalty that includes consolidating its line of accounts into a single savings account and a single checking account. CIBC, which had conducted research on its retail operations, also will slash service fees and higher interest rates.

Debit cards may come with a sting in the tail

Debit cards are being used more frequently instead of cash even in ordinary day to day transactions. Among the issuers are President's Choice Financial and Citizens Bank of Canada, and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Customers, however, should be aware of debit charges for card use.

Barrett, MPs clash over branch closings

Article Abstract:

Barclays Bank PLC's chief executive officer, Matthew Barrett, was criticized by Canadian lawmakers for closing bank branches in small towns. Mr. Barrett, who once headed the Bank of Montreal, received $3.04 million for his first three months at the United Kingdom bank.
