Canfor posts improved results

David Emerson, the chief executive officer of Canfor Corp., has reported the lumber producer earned $40.2 million in profits for the first quarter ended March 31, 2003. Canfor has been hurt by the softwood lumber trade dispute between the United States and Canada.

Doman looks to U.S. financier to manage debt

Rick Doman, the president of Doman Industries Ltd., said that the firm has abandoned its restructuring plan after losing support from bondholders. Doman is talking with Cerberus Capital Management over a debt-refinancing deal.

West Fraser profit tops estimates

Article Abstract:

West Fraser Timber Company Ltd. posted a higher than expected 36 million Canadian dollar profit for the 2002 fourth quarter. The company posted 11 million Canadian dollars in profits in the same 2001 period.
