Article Abstract:

This article describes the efforts of Australian sprinter Dean Capobianco to return to international competition after the end of a two-year ban imposed on him in May 1996 after he tested positive for steroid use. Relevant points include his current participation in the 400-meter Australian relay team, and his hopes of participating in further international events and the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Wayne Bartholemew, the 1978 world surfing champion, was elected chief executive officer of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP). He plans to change the ASP from a fringe group into a mainstream player in the sports world. He has to unify separate contingents in the ASP who have negotiated conflicting broadcasting deals for surfing competitions.
