Patten believes that economics and politics are inseparable, as illustrated in the free enterprise of Hong Kong and its free way of life. It is in the best interest of China not to interfere with Hong Kong's success, because 21% of China's gross domestic product comes from Hong Kong.

The private sector to the rescue?

Article Abstract:

Ondaatje predicts that Canada will suffer a major financial crisis in 1995 or 1996. He thinks the Canadian dollar will be devalued and that might cause a large increase in inflation. Ondaatje says the Canadian government should involve the private sector in economic decisions.
