Coke settles racial discrimination lawsuit

Article Abstract:

Coca-Cola Bottling Co Consolidated has reached a tentative agreement to settle a federal lawsuit that charges the beverage firm with racial discrimination against African-American employees in pay, promotions and performance reviews. The proposed settlement was reached just before the filing of a brief demanding that the case become a class-action lawsuit as it includes 2,000 current and former Coca-Cola workers. Meanwhile, another discrimination lawsuit was filed against the company by renowned attorney Johnnie Cochran on behalf of four plaintiffs.

NHTSA investigating Goodyear truck tires

Article Abstract:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has started an investigation over tread-separation problems on light-truck tires made by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. The NHTSA said that 15 deaths and 129 injuries have already been reported on 37 cases of tread separation on Goodyear tires. Covered by the probe are 21 million tires made from 1991 to 1999, classified under the load range 'E,' the highest weight-carrying capacity for light-truck tires.

Former Cendant execs plead guilty to fraud

Article Abstract:

Three former executives of Cendant Corp have pleaded guilty to wire fraud and mail charges filed against them by the hotel, rental-car and real estate franchising firm. Former CFO Cosmo Corigliano, former controller Anne Pember and former Vice Pres Casper Sabatino, who have entered their pleas on Jun 14, 2000, face a maximum jail term of five years on each of the charges.
