DaimlerChrysler has halves in name game

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler has no right to use the Daimler monicker on any of its vehicle models. The right to the name belongs to Ford Motor through its ownership of Jaguar, the firm that acquired Daimler Co., the company established by Gottlieb Daimler in the UK in 1896. Jaguar, which acquired the permanent right to use the name when it purchased Daimler's firm in 1960, already has a sedan model bearing the name. DaimlerChrysler has stated that it will not be pleased with a rival who will resort to using half of its name.

Car buying hasn't looked this good in years

Article Abstract:

The next few months promise to be the best in years for buying a car or truck. Detroit's Big Three automakers have initiated a market-share war that could inflate incentives to an average $3,000 by the end of 1998. Leases expire in 1998 on a record 3.1 million 2-,3- and 4-year-old vehicles creating a plethora of so-called off-lease used cars that will not only hold down used car prices but also put pressure on automakers not to raise new prices.
