Deal makes Adelphia cable's No. 5

Article Abstract:

Century Communications Corp. will be acquired by Adelphia Communications Corp. for $3.6 billion in cash and stock, and assumption of $1.6 billion in debt. The acquisition price is equal to about 16 times Century's projected cash flow in 1999. Adelphia, with its 4.7 million subcribers, will get Century Communications' 1.6 million customers, making it the number five cable operator nationwide. Century CEO Leonard Tow will join Adelphia's board of directors as part of the deal.

Cox a player with rural cable deal

Article Abstract:

Cox Communications Inc will acquire TCA Cable TV Inc for $3.3 billion in cash and stock. The deal would make Cox Commnunications the fourth largest cable operator with almost 5 million subscribers. TCA, which operates mainly in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, has 883,000 subscibers while Cox Communications has around 4.1 million subscribers. The combined company is projected to have a cash flow of $1.147 billion and revenue of $2.935 billion in the year 2000.

Turner units not immune from sales, changes

Fusient Media Ventures is purchasing World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from Tme Warner Inc for an undisclosed sum. CNN staffers are bracing for a major reorganization which involves cutting several hundred positions, with the bulk being in the Internet unit. The divestment is due to two factors, namely, WCW losses amounting to $80 million in 2000 and its inability to keep up with its chief rival, the World Wrestling Federation.
