Dissident Ford dealers assail loan program

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co of Canada Ltd has been sued by a group of auto dealers who are opposing the automaker's proposal to provide loans to some dealers to encourage them to merge or relocate. Under the program, the company will provide interest-free loans to dealers who will have another Ford outlets within two kilometers when Lincoln-Mercury dealerships become Ford outlets in Oct 1999. The Canadian Ford Dealers Assn said that the automaker violated sales and service agrements by converting Lincoln-Mercury stores to Ford outlets.

Auto dealer first to go public

Article Abstract:

Carriage Automotive Group Inc. is to become the first automobile dealer to be listed on a Canadian stock exchange after an approval to initiate public trading in fall 1998. Carriage president Ronald Rubinoff said the plan of the firm is to grow from being listed on Toronto Stock Exchange or Canadian Dealing Network through an initial public offering. Rubinoff added that the dealer is not seeking growth that is too fast, but confirmed it is in discussions with a number of dealership groups.

Daewoo, Kia to sell cars in Canada in 1999

Article Abstract:

Kia Motors Canada Inc. and Daewoo Auto Canada Inc. plans to begin selling automobiles in Canada in 1999. Kia Motors Canada plans to start in March 1999 its Canadian auto-selling initiatives via approximately 40 to 30 dealership outlets. Daewoo Auto Canada, on the other hand, plans to start selling its automobile products in the first quarter of 1999 via approximately 30 Quebec and Ontario dealership outlets.
